The Vision of the i play Children’s Museum is to support the Washington, DC Metropolitan community in discovering play, creativity, and imagination through exploration of cultural, visual, musical, performance and literal Arts.

Here’s what Children’s Museum Leaders say about how their museum is a new
kind of Town Square!

• We are a community asset, a family commons and an educational resource that crosses geographic and demographic lines.
  
• A lot of folks know us as the local voting precinct! It’s amazing how many people learn about us during voting time. This gives us a great chance to meet a wide variety of people and share our philosophy for play and learning.
  
• We have a town “gazebo” in the center of our “Our Town” exhibit where families gather. Modeled after the original that existed in our neighboring park where “Politics In the Park” was held and mayoral speeches were given in years past.
  
• We are a safe place for families and school groups to come and play, learn, interact, and explore.
  
• We are a meeting place for families, and model adult/child interaction through our programs like story times, where we model how to engage children with books. These are things parents quickly pick up on and can do at home.
  
• We are a catalyst for interaction among diverse elements of the community, creating opportunities for them to collaborate on programs that educate, entertain, and open eyes and minds.
  
• Because of our proven success to date and because there are no similar facilities within a 60 mile radius, our museum is in an excellent position to bring together educational leaders, volunteers, business, local colleges, and youth to enhance the science, math, history, social studies and art being taught in schools today.
